There are people who check in here when I take too long to update Cranky Lesbian, possibly worried — or even hopeful — that Crankenstein finally murdered me.* If you’re one of ’em, hold your horses, a new review is (hopefully) coming this weekend. I’m just (temporarily) up to my ears in bullshit right now and not getting much sleep, an unpleasant combination. The neck and shoulder Botox wore off early, which doesn’t help.
In the meantime, iTunes recently recommended I check out Reba McEntire and RuPaul, who are already well-represented in my music library (as is Annie Lennox; the rest of the ’90s and ‘More Like Dance Fever‘ suggestions are not). One McEntire song that’s missing from my collection but pops into my head at the strangest moments is the theme to Malibu Country, a short-lived 2012-2013 sitcom costarring Lily Tomlin, of all people, as her mom.
Of the many things I bizarrely still remember about Malibu Country, one of the oddest was that it was created by Lennox’s former personal and professional partner, Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, which brings all of this nonsense full circle.
*Her “Cell Block Tango” hook wouldn’t be ‘Cicero’ or ‘Lipschitz.’ More like ‘Federer,’ when she found me watching the 2017 Australian Open final for the 10th time and finally snapped.
